They are American. They don't sit idly by, leaving the status
quo unchallenged.
They dissect Hillary Clinton's foreign policy experience: to ensure that she's
tested, that she's true, that she doesn't lose who she is to this
process.
They vet Barack Obama regarding Wright and Rezko: to ensure that he's ready,
that he's tough, that he won't let the naysayers get him down.
They confront John McCain's campaign's assertion and reassertion of his
experience as a POW. He can't inject that into this election, time after time,
and not expect its other, uncomfortable side to go unexamined.
Yes, uncomfortable. Because that is
what being American is: it shifts the psyche, moves molecules, turns convention
on its head.
Yes, they are agitators. Every Great American who ever lived was an agitator.
Because, you see, when government gets comfortable, when people get comfortable--bad
things happen.
Journalists are manipulated
Lies are perpetuated
Unjust wars are waged, prolonged
Homes are lost
Civil rights are trampled on
People wade through flooded streets ignored, forgotten
Healthcare escapes millions
"No Child Left Behind" leaves thousands behind
Good men and women die
But Americans will not be shouted down. They will not be told to shut up. They
will not be told to go home.
They. Won't. Budge.
They reclaim the word "American" because there are those who've
hijacked it, who've stolen it, who've perverted it.
In this
upcoming election, with hope on their side, they take back what was rightfully
theirs.
They're Democrat.
They're Republican.
They're Independent.
They're Christian.
They're Atheist.
They're conservative.
They're liberal.
Yes, they are even Anarchist at times.
