I'm going to be updating this post throughout the evening, so check back often.  And leave your feedback - we'd love to hear from you!

11:10 PM Eastern Time

Obama Speaks

He started by thanking his hosts in Evansville, Indiana.  Obama then congratulated Hillary Clinton.  He then went into a soaring speech against gutter politics.

Then he started down a different path.  Obama was channeling John Edwards, describing the specific problems of individuals in Indiana.

"We're not here to talk about change for change's sake" - This is a different Obama.  This is an Angry Obama.  Finally.  He really went after McCain and his statement that there has been great progress over the past 8 years.

"The questions isn't whether the other party will bring about change - we know they won't - it's will we?"

"How many decades have we been talking about healthcare. How many jobs have gone overseas in the 70's, 80's and 90's."

"You can't be the champion of working class Americans if your funded by lobbyist that drown out their voices."

"We can be the party that doesn't just focus on how to win, but why we should."

What an amazing speech.  I think this was greater than anything I've heard because he shot back directly at Hillary's her attacks. Why didn't he do this earlier???  Obama should do this every day in Indiana.

Poll Results
-- With 85% reporting, Hillary is up 55%-45%

Tidbits
How come three guys in a row were wearing Abercrombie & Fitch behind Obama?  Did they make a campaign contribution?

10:45 PM Eastern Time

Hillary Speaks

Hillary gave an interesting victory speech.  She touched all the key points and really tried to paint herself as a working class populist (yeah right).  The thing that really stuck out was her explicit request for people to give money at her website.

The AP headline is accurate - that Hillary has lived to see another day.

Poll Results
-- With 76% reporting, Hillary is up 54%-46%

10:00 PM Eastern Time

Poll Results
-- With 49% reporting, Hillary is up 54%-46%
-- A lot of the Philadelphia and surrounding areas are slow to report, and should push down Hillary's numbers a bit.

Tidbits
-- Claire McCaskill looked great in her interview with Chris Matthews.  I saw her speak once before and she seemed nervous and flustered.  I didn't think she had a chance at being the veep candidate, and honestly still don't, but I think she'll be in the conversation
-- It sounds like the media is finally picking up the narrative that Obama can't lose.  This more than anything else, should help bring this fight to a close.

9:30 PM Eastern Time

Exit Poll Results
-- With 20% reporting, Hillary is up 53%-47%

Tidbits
-- Will superdelegates pause till May 6th?
-- Pat Buchanan looks like his head will explode.  He hates Obama.

9:00 PM Eastern Time

Exit Poll Results
-- With 7% reporting, Hillary is up 54%-46%

Tidbits
-- Hillary is $1M in debt.  She needs a big win to get the cash influx to keep going.  Keep watching that number!

8:50 PM Eastern Time

Breaking News - Hillary Clinton wins Pennsylvania

8:30 PM Eastern Time

Exit Poll Results
-- Too early to call - Hillary is ahead 65%-35% - 0% reporting
-- 300k new voters on the Democratic rolls

8:00 PM Eastern Time

Exit Poll Results
--
Pennsylvania is too close to call
-- 40% of Pennsylvanians are Catholic
-- Pennsylvania demographics mirror those of Ohio, with a larger rural population and a slightly better rate of college graduate

Tidbits
--
Congressman Harold Ford Jr., for Tennessee Senate candidate, stated that Obama should be concerned if he can't close the deal.  Obama needs to try and articulate policy better than they have to blue collar workers.
-- Tim Russert thinks Obama's problem has to do with older white women who really want Clinton, and have been steadily going for her 2-1.
-- My take, Obama can't attack Clinton the way he can attack McCain, because she's a nominal Democrat.

7:30 PM Eastern Time

The polls close in 30 minutes.  Not much has changed in terms of exit polls.

Tidbits
--
Defense Secretary Robert Gates said another Mideast war (presumably with Iran) would be disastrous.
-- Earlier, Chris Matthews said that the media has been feeding the "delusion" that Clinton can win.  Now I'm watching David Gregory perpetuate the delusion...
-- Has anyone else noticed how old the CNN Political Team looks.  I guess they're the "best political team on television" because they got started in journalism covering the signing of the Declaration of Independence...

7:00 PM Eastern Time

Exit Poll Results
-- 67%  Pennsylvanians think Hillary went too far in her attacks, 49% think Obama did
-- 54% of Pennsylvanians thought the deluge of ads they've put up with influenced their opinions
-- Philadelphia experienced the greatest number of new voters registrations

Tidbits
-- Yesterday, Bill Clinton said that if the Dems used the Republican system, Hillary would be ahead.  I guess he didn't notice the irony, but he's almost right.  If Hillary had run on the Republican side, she would probably be the nominee - the Republican nominee.
-- If it's a close finish, 40-50 uncommitted superdelegates may move quickly to endorse Obama
-- The Clinton campaign is broke.  Barring a huge win, the money gap will become a huge problem in the coming states (she spends about $1 Million per day)

Predictions
-- Obama will pick either Ed Rendell or Wes Clark as his running mate.

6:30 PM Eastern Time

Exit Poll Results
--
According to MSNBC, exit polls show that 54% of Pennsylvanians believe that Obama will be the nominee
-- Change is the single biggest factor, with 49% of the electorate saying it was the primary factor in their decision making.  74% of Obama supporters cited "change" as their number one criteria
-- 8 in 10 voters believe that we are in a moderate to severe recession
-- 10% of Pennsylvanians made their decision today.

According to this Huffington Post article, Hillary has an early 52%-48% lead.  These early polls are notoriously bad and probably are not a good indicator of the final outcome.  If those numbers hold though, it'll be a pretty bad night for the Clintons.

Tidbits
- Obama will end the night in Indiana, the next battleground state (assuming Hillary wins)
- Hillary today reiterated a blanket protection of Israel and other Middle Eastern allies from Iranian aggressions.
- Bill Clinton denied (lied) that he accused the Obama campaign of playing the "race card" yesterday in an NPR radio interview.  I'll try and find a link to the video...

Thanks for the update. I am very dissapointed. I thought the voters really wanted change. I guess not. I REALLY thought he was going to win.

let's wait for the actual numbers. if he can keep it under 5, she'll have to quit (no money).

it is disappointing though...

6 points isn't terrible. I hope she goes broke.

Claire McCaskill is a good speaker, but Chris Matthews looks really disappointed - he expected a lot more from Obama in Pennsylvania, and he's probably right...

Paul Kanter had an interesting little blog post about the fact that Congress, which technically has the exclusive authority to declare war, has not done so with regard to Iraq (or any of the last several wars the U.S. has engaged in).  My first thought was that the Constitution's pronouncement that "Only Congress can declare war†more...

Throughout the course of the bruising heavyweight bout between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for the title of Democratic nominee, much was made of the effect that the battle would have on the prospects of Democrats in the Fall.  The mudslinging, the name-calling, the shots at experience and policy- for the most part, it appeared that the pu more...

Like most Americans, I waited to fill out my taxes until the last minute.  I'm happy to say that I got the 1040 completed and into the post office - which was a complete nightmare by the way - on time.  Standing there got me thinking about what this exercise will feel like a year from now.  The reality is it all comes down to whi more...

We can't go on like this.  Barack Obama has already created such a wide lead that it is virtually impossible for Hillary Clinton to catch him in pledge delegates.  She has had to resort to Republican fear mongering, and whether intentional or not, her surrogates have been reduced to race-baiting for votes.  The only way to stop h more...
