An Olive Branch to Clinton Supporters

No one should be faulted for supporting a strong, intelligent, capable woman who only lost her way.  She lost it in her search for her real voice amid comparisons to her husband, surrounded by out-of-bounds suggestions about her gender and mired in a campaign team stuck in the campaign style of the 80s and 90s.

One thing I have always tried to do was not bash Hillary Clinton supporters in my posts here at Eyes On Obama. Admittedly, I might have slipped every now and then. But actually, Clinton made it easier to rip her rather than any of her supporters by way of her poor and divisive campaigning.

However, this blog post is not going to be another obituary for the Clinton campaign in which I count down the gazillion reasons why her campaign failed. Instead, I want to focus on where we are right now as Democrats.

Clinton supporters obviously liked what she offered as a candidate - just as Obama supporters believe in what he offers as a candidate - and no one can deny that Clinton had her moments that inspired and promised a better America.

Speaking of moments, Obama had a major one recently in Oregon

75,000 micro-moments, to be exact.

75,000 thousand people rallied for Obama in Portland - 75,000 people came to hear his message.

They stood on both shores of the Willamette River under the unrelenting sun. Some sat in their boats cradled by the river while others lined the bridge overhead. I'm not going to lie, it was a beautiful scene.

So, yeah, you can say I'm a goner. I'm staunchly in Obama's camp.

But Republicans and conservatives, Clinton supporters and McCain apologists alike have to acknowledge that there is a movement underway.

That's why there are Republicans like Eisenhower's granddaughter who may endure the wrath of Republican voters, her friends, and family because of her support of Obama. That's why some Clinton supporters have entered firmly already into Obama's camp.

They know that if Clinton doesn't snag the nomination, then against McCain, Obama will be the best candidate for women's rights--specifically when it comes to Roe v. Wade. They know that Obama is best equipped temperament-wise to handle this hectic, dangerous world we live in. They know that Obama's open style of leadership -- as exemplified in the success of his campaign and in his bipartisanship in the Senate reflected in his nuke-securing efforts -- is pitch-perfect to lead us out of Iraq and into better relations with the international world.

Obama's voter drive that plans to recruit at least a million volunteers by November, although it didn't get a lot of media coverage,  is one silent and unassuming way that the wave of Obama-for-President is washing over this great country.

But one thing I want to make clear: we can't do it without you. We can't do it without the conservatives who want something different, something better. We can't do it without the Clinton supporters who have the same amazing future vision we do, except they saw it being delivered in a package of Clinton rather than of Obama.

This is not some "Hey-come-join-the-bandwagon-before-it-leaves-you
-behind" plea. This is a true declaration that "we-need-you-to-help-bring
about-the-America-we-both-know-can-exist" as it was promised in both the Declaration of Independence and Constitution.

We have all the way 'til November before you will have to make your mind up.

And right now it's kind of like in Clinton's ad where the voice over says "It's 3 a.m in the White House. The phone is ringing..."

Well--It's every day in your life. America is calling. The country waits for you.

Support Eyes On Obama!

Discussion:

I hope so too, strixie.

One thing, though: I miswrote that Eisenhower's daughter supports Obama when I meant to write that it was his granddaughter who endorsed Senator Obama.
