This is truly beyond the pale.

Hillary Clinton today brought up the assassination of Sen. Robert Kennedy while defending her decision to stay in the race against Barack Obama.

"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out.
Translation: "I'm still in this thing because somebody might yet (pretty please) assassinate my opponent Barack Obama". (!!!)

Is it just me or should a presidential candidate be a little more circumspect about the potential of her rival to be assassinated!? She has to be stopped!

Discussion:

This is what I have to say re: Hillary Clinton:

Stupid

Bitch

This is not the first time that Hillary Clinton has said such things. She was not stressed. She repeated the same thing that she has said in the past.

I heard about this while driving home today and saw the response on Countdown:

My jaw hit the floor, this isn't a case of "misspoke" or being "misunderstood". It's also not the first time she's referenced both her husband's 1992 campaign and RFK's in 1968. The code words of "something could happen" have been stripped bare for all to see now. No one is leaping to her defense and the response of her campaign spokesman Mo Ellethee: "She was simply referencing her husband in 1992 and Bobby kennedy in 1968 as historical expmales of the nominating contest going well into the summer. Any, any reading into it beyond that is inaccurate." He also said to a group of reporters in South Dakota -- including MSNBC's First Read Mike Memoli -- that this is "one of the more ridiculous" issues that has come up in a long race.

I could be cynical and say it doesn't surprise me in terms of this is what they really think, what surprises me is how baldly its been stated and is now out in the open. This is one that they won't be able to recall and it's by far the most damaging thing that's been said by anyone in the entire campaign. First Huckabee's joke at the NRA and now this, it only brings the darkness to the surface and exposes the truth that's been carefully hidden away up until now. It will most certainly put an end to any consideration for VP or even a slot in a future Obama administration.

I await the reaction of the superdelegates over the holiday weekend...they'll have plenty of time to ponder this I'm sure.

[Cross-Posted on my New Blog, Library Grape.] The Obama team made what I consider to be a political masterstroke yesterday by announcing their selection of respected former Congressman Leon Panetta to head the CIA. Although somewhat mixed, the reactions from the intelligence community have included a lot of praise for the Panetta pick: Former inte more...

I think it’s incredible that Beau Biden, the Delaware Attorney General and son of the state’s senior US Senator, went overseas for a tour of duty in the Iraq with his Delaware National Guard Unit. It’s a selfless act of bravery and patriotism. And from a partisan standpoint, I think it’s fantastic because far too few Democ more...

With his ship taking on water quickly, it’s captain- embattled Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich- is still firing his canons wildly. Many people over the last several months have asked me why I am so worked up over this election.  Prior to November of last year, I had switched off any interest in politics and hadn't much cared about national elections for, oh, something like 10+ years.  My answer to the question always involves two important elements. The first element more...

As the furor over all of the new revelations about how little Sarah Palin was vetted by the McCain campaign builds, I just heard Republican South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford on MSNBC offer the latest potential lame excuse for why McCain didn't vet her properly: Any of us as public figures have a public record and a public life.  So, the fa more...
