Of all the hats that Hillary Clinton has tried on this electoral season- from frontrunner, to underdog, to champion of the working middle class (read: the whites)- it's probably her current one that's been the most offensive, if you can believe it.  That's right: I can chuck all the accusations of racism, sexism, and unfairness that have originated from the Clinton camp aside.  But this latest one insults my intelligence.

Hillary Clinton: victim.  And of course, the loudest siren of unfairness is the would-be First Gentleman himself, Bill Clinton.

"I can't believe it. It is just frantic the way they are trying to push and pressure and bully all these superdelegates to come out," Clinton told supporters in a campaign stop on Sunday.  He went on to allege a media cover-up of certain figures suggesting that the Senator from New York would fare well in a November match-up against John McCain.

"She is winning the general election today and [Barack Obama] is not, according to all the evidence," he said. "And I have never seen anything like it. I have never seen a candidate treated so disrespectfully just for running."

So, a vast media conspiracy?  Keep in mind, this is the same political duo that called "vast right-wing conspiracy" when Bill was in the hot seat, denying that he'd ever had any kind of inappropriate relationship with Monica Lewinsky.

It's not just that Clinton's pandering is pathetic or untrue.  It kind of calls into question Clinton's pledge to "work [her] heart out" for Obama if he is ultimately successful in his quest for the nomination.  Every time Clinton or her husband claim to be the victims of some sort of foul play, it begs the question: who is the perpetrator?  Who is responsible for the former First Lady being "treated so disrespectfully just for running?"  Pointing the finger at the media only goes so far.  And this is only the inter-party portion of the overall election.  Essentially, Clinton is attempting to make Obama an antagonist of his own party.

Or at least a significant portion of it.  I wrote not long ago about how Clinton was essentially holding her wing of the Democratic Party hostage, with her sole demand being that she be granted the vice presidential slot on Obama's eventual ticket.  But the more she argues and convinces her devout following that Obama is a cheat, or that he's somehow unfairly snatched the nomination out from under her nose, the less likely it will be that Clinton will be able to convince even her most ardent of supporters that they should fall back in line behind an Obama-led ticket.

Moreover, it lends some credence to the conspiracy-theory type claim circulating that Clinton's continued presence in the race for the Democratic nomination has more to do with sabotage than it does with party unity.  Looking at the facts, it seems fairly straightforward and simple to state that in the end, Clinton is making it more difficult for the Democratic candidate to be successful in November, no matter who that candidate is.

And by this logic, Clinton, betting on the almost-assured fact that it will be Obama, and not her, who carries the party flag into the fall, hopes to be in place to sweep up the pieces again in four years.

Hillary Clinton is no victim.  No one should be under any kind of delusion that she's run a dirty campaign, and that Obama has simply taken the high road 100% of the time.  This race is for the biggest prize in politics, and everyone in every campaign, from the very top to the very bottom, knows they have to play hardball to win.  But there is something pathetic and unnerving when the Clinton's play the victim- especially when they've done it before.  Besides, we all know how that turned out.

[-] Hillary Clinton: Victim - yeswecangirl

I do not think that Hillary Clinton is a victim in this race, that is far from the truth. If anything, we are all victims of her sore losing antics and cruel conduct during the duration of this campaign. To say that  she is a victim is a very bad thing to say on her part- as are many other things she has said. I guess she "miss spoke" again, huh?

The true victims in 2008 may be the next generation IF Hillary has managed to 'split' the party in two.   If there was ever an election year that people aged 18 to 30 must turn out in mass - it's 2008.  This is being said by a granny of 3 that has passed the age of 30 many election cycles in the past.

Hillary has amazed me.  I can't say I have ever been a big Hillary fan, but I could tolerate her and would have voted for her if she were the nominee.   Right after her 11 straight losses she changed - or maybe there wasn't a change, just that the 'true' Hillary was about to surface.  Hillary is no victim, she has victimized the nation......I just pray we don't have to put up with McCain's appointees to the Supreme Court for the next 25 to 30 years because of Hillary's actions.   The Supreme Court issue must be told to ALL of Clinton's supporters that say they will vote McCain.

Claims of victimhood is a clever dodge, in one sweeping motion it simultaneously absolves her and her campaign of any hand in coming up short and shifts the blame to a handy "other". In the past, it was right-wing conspirators out to destroy them personally and politically. Now it's the media and the insiders who have treated her in a "sexist" fashion.

It's convenient amnesia...it overlooks the fact that she failed to plan strategically and manage her campaign effectively. Rather than standing up and taking full responsibility for where she's at today, there must be some other source to blame. The unfortunate consquence of this is that her supporters are latching on to this notion that she's actually winning and that it will be her, not Obama, who will have the nomination stolen away by the superdelegates. It's an "Alice in Wonderland" turn of events, but they know it resonates and continue to beat that drum.

The average voter may not grasp the importance of the rules and the delegate allocation process, but they can grab onto the simplistic idea of "popular vote" = "winner". It's the same reason that many of the voting public still insist we have a democratic form of government....if we did then it truly would be an "American Idol" process. It isn't, but the Clinton's are masters at appealing to the lowest common denominator in their demagoguery. And that's exactly where they've devolved, they've become nothing but demagogues and "victimhood" wears well given their position...and their perfectly comfortable donning that mantle if it suits their purposes.

Kathy: it’s getting a bit tedious, don’t you agree?

You see, here on EOO we couldn’t care less about what ”CNN points out clearly”....“The Democratic race for nomination is still very much alive” – Sure…Provided you are delusional! Do yourself a favour: wake up! It’s been over since Obama won (WON) Texas…

So, Kathy, darling – what about following that wise piece of advice kindly given to you by Socrates in a previous post? http://www.eyesonobama.com/forum/topic/id_19144
Take your business elsewhere!
After all, in your own words, “It’s that easy…”

[Cross-Posted on my New Blog, Library Grape.] The Obama team made what I consider to be a political masterstroke yesterday by announcing their selection of respected former Congressman Leon Panetta to head the CIA. Although somewhat mixed, the reactions from the intelligence community have included a lot of praise for the Panetta pick: Former inte more...

When the Florida recount grinded to a halt in 2004 and it became clear that Al Gore would be heading back to life as a private citizen, Democrats gritted their teeth and started planning how, in four long years, they’d get George W. Bush the second time around. But after enduring a period that saw two foreign wars and economic indicators po more...
