Both Clintons
work overtime as their own worst enemies. From Hillary's trouble with the truth
to Bill's rumored indiscretions, these two are self-destructing.And by taking Hillary on as his vice
president, Obama would be making a political deathwish.
Hillary Clinton, some argue, is the best vice president
option for Obama. And whether you like
her or not, it's hard to deny a little more than 17,580,000 votes cast for her
during this primary season. The number is somewhere around there, counting both
primary and caucus states, even though Hillary's camp would probably dispute
the inclusion of caucus states in the final count. And Hillary does not lead Obama in the
popular vote. But this number, no matter
how large, is nearly inconsequential.
The problem: the behaviors of the Clintons negate those votes. They've smashed their own credibility beyond
repair.I'm not saying that Obama won't
choose Hillary as his running mate - I'm saying that Hillary's and Bill's individual
demonstrated and documented breaks with reality should be more than a little
troubling to Obama.
I stop short of calling what happened in Florida
and Michigan
electoral fraud, but it was
definitely electoral interference.Electoral fraud, where illicit actions are
taken to cause the vote to sway to one candidate rather than to another, is illegal
in most countries. This did not occur in
the cases of Florida and Michigan. But - and it seems an idea that most
members were reluctant to bring up at the rules and bylaws committee meeting - there
was definite electoral misconduct on
their part.It may not have been
intentional, but it occurred.
These Democratic leaders purveyed information to the public
that Florida and Michigan elections were not going to count in the decision
making process of selecting the Democratic nominee - and then decided the exact
opposite was to happen some months later. Michigan
and Florida
violated the timing rule. So, some Michigan and Florida
citizens had been placed under the impression that they would be essentially voting
in mirage elections, elections that everyone saw taking place but really didn't
exist.
So, many voters decided not to vote, having deemed the word of Democratic leaders trustworthy.
The vote was suppressed for all candidates, including for Hillary,
in both Florida and Michigan.Hillary and Obama supporters were deprived of their votes, thus the
final vote in the elections was not a fairreflection (in the insisted words of
Harold Ickes) of reality.
In my opinion, the committee should not have reinstated
either elections' results because doing so in effect legitimized elections that
were not legitimate. To do so at all is
not fraud, but it is damn close to being something like fraud.
Anyway, Hillary and her ilk ( i.e. Harold Ickes, Lanny Davis and
Stephanie Tubbs Jones) are characterizing the rules and bylaws members' decision to
reinstate half of the delegation from both states as a
"hijacking".These people are
insatiable - they were lucky that the Florida
and Michigan
votes were brought back into consideration at all.Only a few
months ago, Clinton had been fine with the states' rule-breaking elections not being included.
But then she exaggerates what has taken place in Florida and Michigan as if they are monumental blows to democracy on the level of the disenfranchisement of blacks or women historically. Mischaracterizing the committee's attempt at being fair
to all parties regarding those illegitimate elections shows questionable
character, ethics and integrity on Hillary's part.
And her misbehavior is contagious - the otherwise logical
people who are her supporters have minds that are infected with her exaggerations
and misdirections.
And now the latest on Bill Clinton just piles onto an ever
growing pile of crap coming out of the Clinton
camp.In "The Comeback Id" by Todd
Purdum, there are some allegations made against Clinton that may or may not be true.I'm of the opinion that unless there is
another Monica Lewinsky and another blue dress, then Bill Clinton will be inclined
to deny every and any charge leveled against him. And he did deny these
allegations in a recent statement.
One thing that is not above being asserted is that Bill
Clinton is not able to avoid the appearance of impropriety. He is incapable of not being seen somewhere
or not having a business dealing that appears shady or even perhaps
criminal.Between Ron Burkle and the
latest mysterious blonde he is seen dining with, Bill Clinton just adds to that
air of dishonesty that has always shrouded the Clintons. It's just now in Obama, people see that they can be granted transparency
in their government leader.
It may not be possible that the Clintons can resuscitate their image in the
eyes of millions of people.Furthermore,
they seem like they are too close to the the moment where they could
implode. We don't need that implosion to
take place while they are in the White House. They are far too divisive and have far too questionable approaches to
politics.
This is not a case of Obama supporters not being accepting
of Clinton as VP, this a case of the Clintons doing everything
in their power to make themselves unacceptable candidates for being granted a
return trip to the White House.
They are the ones who cripple a launch of a joint ticket,
Obama/Clinton, into the White House. Neither
Obama supporters nor Clinton
supporters are at fault here.
The Clintons
killed the dream a long time ago - maybe longer ago than most people, especially Hillary's supporters, want to admit.

The Obama team made what I consider to be a political masterstroke yesterday by announcing their selection of respected former Congressman Leon Panetta to head the CIA.
Although somewhat mixed, the reactions from the intelligence community have included a lot of praise for the Panetta pick:

I think it’s incredible that Beau Biden, the Delaware Attorney General and son of the state’s senior US Senator, went overseas for a tour of duty in the Iraq with his Delaware National Guard Unit. It’s a selfless act of bravery and patriotism. And from a partisan standpoint, I think it’s fantastic because far too few Democ more...

With his ship taking on water quickly, it’s captain- embattled Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich- is still firing his canons wildly. And much to the vexation of Senate Democrats, he’s actually landing some nasty shots.

The more and more I think about this Palin pick-- the more I digest about her-- the more her selection as McCain's running mate doesn't sit right with me.
This is not because I'm a proud Democrat or that I'm an even prouder liberal, but because I'm a thinking human being.
I could go on a tirade about how spectacularly unqualified she is for the V more...

Last night, the Clintons started on the long road to redemption among the supporters of Barack Obama, the other segment of the Democratic Party. There's often a lot of talk about what Obama will do to win over Hillary supporters but not much discussion of the near disrepair of the Bill Clinton legacy. He had alienated a lot of folks, pa more...

I've thought about it as much as probably everyone else--from the bloggers to the pundits, from the voters to the candidates themselves.
But when I tried to narrow down Obama's and McCain's options in the VP race to a point where I could make an informed prediction of who they'd choose, I couldn't.
Wait, that's not entirely true. I did have my fa more...
