New Excuse: Palin 'Vetted by People of Alaska'

As the furor over all of the new revelations about how little Sarah Palin was vetted by the McCain campaign builds, I just heard Republican South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford on MSNBC offer the latest potential lame excuse for why McCain didn't vet her properly:

Any of us as public figures have a public record and a public life.  So, the fact is, she's been vetted by the people of Alaska and is walking around with 80% approval ratings...  So there's been a lot of vetting going on but maybe not in the sense you're talking about.

You've got to be kidding me, right?  What he's basically saying is that McCain doesn't have to vet Sarah Palin thoroughly because she has high approval ratings?  Really?

Earlier: Why Not Vetting Sarah Palin Matters; McCain Didn't Vet VP Sarah Palin.  Period.

"As a woman, I find their ticket simply revolting."

EXACTLY.

And this woman and McCain (Hilary's 'good friend' McCain) actually believe that Palin can step in and take over the woman's movement from Hillary Rodham Clinton!?!?

What an insult to woman's intellect.  Say what you want about Clinton, but she is seasoned and ready in our political world (domestic and foreign) - Palin is NO CLINTON

exactly.  i think we run the risk of "beating up on the girl" if we attack Palin directly.  But if the attack is couched in praise of Clinton's readiness, it will work.

Indeed, TNmary, Clinton is an icon for a myriad of women. Being the shrewd politician she is, hopefully she will soon let us have her assessment on her "good friend" John McCain’s manifest lack of judgment.

Yesterday a Swedish politician told me she firmly believed this whole “despicable VP story” would backfire on McCain, even if Palin should get the boot in good time prior to Election Day. I have heard a multitude of similar comments among European analysts. Someone has even raised serious questions about McCain’s mental faculties. Others are appalled at a choice that amongst other things reveals the Republican nominee’s palpable disregard of how this move would be evaluated overseas: thanks to the Bush administration, America is in desperate need of reshaping its severely tarnished image – this pick is a quantum leap in the wrong direction, which emphasizes how shockingly out of touch John McCain is. In this very world not even America can manage on its own – but he just “doesn’t get it”, does he?

Legions of European observers trust he is bound to find out. And the moment he does, he won’t know what’s hit him.

(KikiBird – I meant and mean every single word you’ve quoted.)
