The slide that has brought us to where we are now took nearly 8 years to create. George W. Bush inherited a massive budget surplus and a booming economy. In 2004, 169 Ivy League economists (including three Nobel laureates and the majority of the faculty at Harvard, where Bush earned his MBA) sent an open letter to the president warning of the fiscal turmoil to come if he coninued to operate as he did. Van Jones, the "green jobs czar" and West Wing advisor to President Barack Obama, has resigned his post following what he qualified as a "vicious smear campaign" against him by opponents on the right. Jones has come under fire for a series of statements, including some in which he called Republicans "a**holes," making comments about the racial issues surrounding the Columbine massacre, and signing a controversial 2004 petition. more...
