Since when did the President become only a figure of partisanship? From the 50s through the 80s, schoolchildren were shown Presidential addresses on a variety of topics, many of which were, in fact, policy-driven. Reagan told schoolchildren the dangers of communism. Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Johnson each spoke bout the importance of civil rights and social harmony. So why, now, is a non-partisan message about the importance of education unacceptable? more...
