SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Executive Director, working with the State Chair and party officers, oversees all programmatic and fundraising activities of the state party. The Executive Director is responsible for winning elections for Democrats in a complex, competitive political environment. He or she must be reliable, honest, loyal and discreet. The Executive Director reports to the State Chair and party officers.

Primary responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

Developing and implementing campaign plans to win elections at the local, legislative, congressional, and statewide levels.

Serving as the chief strategic and tactical executive of the Arizona Democratic Party.

Overseeing the coordinated campaign efforts and coordination of consultants’ activities.

Understanding grassroots organization as typified by the Obama campaign.

Demonstrate an understanding of the use of technology on winning elections.

Managing political relationships both in-state and around the country, e.g. DGA, DNC, DSCC, DCCC, the White House and the Obama campaign.

Hiring the Communication Director, Political Director and other staff, performing reviews and encouraging staff development.

Reviewing staff functions and restructuring job responsibilities, if necessary.

Directing fundraising efforts, develop a fundraising plan working with finance staff and fundraising committee to implement plan.

Working with fundraising consultants and telemarketers to monitor and maximize fundraising efforts.

 

Overseeing programs such as voter registration and the Permanent Early Voter List.

Working with the Chair, Treasurer and Staff to develop and adhere to an operating budget.

Working with Chair, Arizona Democratic Party and Staff to determine goals and priorities and monitor progress.

Co-ordinate with Party Secretary in preparing written reports for all meetings of the State committee, Executive committee and Executive Board.

Acting as liaison with the staffs of the Democratic National Committee and the Association of State Democratic Chairs.

Attending ASDC, DNC and County Party meetings.

Making sure all campaign finance reports, tax returns, and other required reports are accurately and timely filed by Finance Director and Staff.

Working with Communications Director and Chair to issue press releases, speak out on important issues, respond to attacks, and present the Democratic Party in a positive, professional light.

Overseeing and maintaining relationships with Democratic Party leaders, elected officials, key constituencies, and donors both in Arizona and nationally.

Developing training programs for the state party, including precinct committee and candidate training sessions.

Overseeing development and production of party-building and message delivery tools, including brochures, newsletters, fax briefings, and Web site.

Organizing all meetings of the State committee and Executive committee as required by state party bylaws and state statute.

Demonstrating an understanding of all aspects of elections including state of the art campaign techniques, campaign planning, targeting, polling, election law, and get-out-the-vote programs

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Pertinent experience in Executive/Senior level management in political campaigns but could include public sector, not-for-profit, private industry and/or trade associations. The ideal profile of career experiences would include a blend of the above mentioned sectors including previous success in local, state, or federal campaigns.

A proven successful executive with the ability to provide dynamic internal and external leadership to the Arizona Democratic Party to achieve political and financial objectives.

A successful senior level executive with a demonstrated record of delivering results in line with the objectives of the Arizona Democratic Party.

Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic political strategies and manage the tactical execution to achieve results.

A passionate executive with a track record of success at the leadership level in political campaigns, public sector, not-for-profit, private industry and/or trade associations.

An excellent internal leader recognized for the ability to develop, motivate, manage and build functional teams that regularly achieve and maintain superior levels of performance.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a credible reputation and high profile presence in the community on behalf of Arizona Democratic Party.

Proven excellence in written and oral communication and proven media experience are essential.

Knowledge and understanding of political dynamics within a state the size of Arizona.

Experience in soliciting and securing donor dollars is essential both in state and nationally.

An individual who is obsessive about the success of the Democratic Party and the quality of life for all of Arizona.

Political Acumen: Knowledgeable in current and possible future practices, trends, and other information affecting the Democratic Party in Arizona and the country. Understands the competitive issues; aware of the political landscape for change and how collaborative strategies around the state work for the betterment of Arizona Democratic Party; comprehends how collaborative strategies with national entities work for the betterment of the Arizona Democratic Party and candidates in Arizona.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree is required.
