About Hillary Supporters

There are going to be some hurt feelings in the Democratic Party once Obama wraps up the nomination, so picking a Hillary supporter could help smooth things over. This list could be much larger given the number of party insiders supporting Hillary, but we went with the ones we could find a lot of chatter on.

VP Opinion Articles on Eyes On Obama

Wesley Clark

Former Supreme Commander of NATO

Strengths:

Executive Experience, Military Service, Hillary Supporters, Foreign Policy

Short Bio

Clark is a Rhodes Scholar, retired four star general, and is also a former presidential candidate. He was Supreme Commander Europe of NATO, and oversaw the Kosovo War.

Our Take

Clark is probably the perfect "resumé" candidate. He has an unbelievably impressive military record. He is a Rhodes Scholar and is a native of Arkansas. He is also a staunch Hillary supporter, so if Obama wants to mend fences, he may be the right pick.

General Clark is awesome, and would be a real asset to Senator Obama's campaign. Clark is intelligent, devious, handsome enough to appeal to most people, and is that rarest of breeds:

A warrior who knows the limitations of war.

I'm paraphrasing his  remarks in the video:

This is what the military is  for? to take over nations, to change governments? Not to defend and protect?

Also, I'd feel better having someone of Clark's military experience at  Barack's back, if / when the righties will try to harm him. Clark would know if the security precautions were adequate, if the people were trustworthy.  I'm not paranoid, unfortunately...just realistic.

We've already seen what these people will do to protect their interests, and another factor in Clark's favor is that he sees it, too.

Devious...that's a funny way to put it. I think Clark would be a great fence-mending pick, as the "Our Take" section implies. I don't buy the argument that a VP pick can help bring a state in play, which would argue for other Clintonites like Strickland or Rendell. It rarely works out that way.

I searched for Hillary supporter, a must, military service, a must, and foreign policy experience, a must. I believe General wesley Clark has the qualities for VP to accent the Presidential ticket of Senator Barack Obama! I believe this VP pick can counter any military and foreign policy experience that Sen. mcCain may have. An overall good pick.

Clark is my second-favorite pick for VP (after Brian Schweitzer). Clark neutralizes McCain's military experience, and has a strong following from his 2004 bid for the Presidency. My only reservations about him are, he's never been elected to anything, and often seems to have trouble connecting with crowds. We need a VP to go out on the campaign trail and, to put it bluntly, kick ass. Can Clark do that? He hasn't shown himself to be a talented politician yet. A talented, experienced, smart leader, definitely. But a politician? I'm not so sure.Either way, I'd be happy with Clark as VP. Obama could certainly do worse!

Doh, I created my own thread before seeing this one... ANYWAYS

In my mind, Clark is the best candidate for VP.

Here is the link to Clark's 2004 Presidential page: http://clark04.com/issues/

Clark has a long list of positives, mainly that:

He is a strong Clinton supporter, and he would be appeal to many Hillary AND Independent supporters. He has some very rational ideas on Iraq (even if they are different than Obama's views I think it would work). He has experience with the Presidential campaign from his 2004 run, something that many of the other candidates do not have. He has a long list of issues from his last campaign that would be useful in this one. He is a lot more well known than Sebelius and many of the other alternatives. Strong Foreign Policy

Obama needs:

Someone who will appeal to Hillary's supporters Someone who will appeal to the White vote Someone who will appeal to Independents and Republicans Someone with experience Someone with Foreign Policy Experience

Clark may not be perfect, but he fits all of those needs. There is just not a lot of people who really have those same strengths, except maybe Sam Nunn and Ed Rendell.

Clark has made some mistakes, but this is not all bad, it shows that he is human. You can't spend all of your time looking for someone perfect, and than pick one of the other unknown choices because we don't know if there is anything bad in their past.

Clark has all the right issues and all the right appeal. You need someone who will appeal to Hillary Supporters and Independents and Clark does that. So would Ed Rendell, but Ed is not a very captivating speaker or motivator, he would be the old brandy in Obama's new plans. If you were to poll both Rendell and Clark, I think you would find that Clark would do better in the swing and important States.

Clark is the missing piece of the puzzle!

My 83-year old mother is one of the "I'll vote for McCain if Obama is nominated!  He's a naive upstart!"-style Hillary Clinton supporters.  She actively campaigned for Wesley Clark's nomination in the 2004 Democratic primary.

If the above anecdotal example is any kind of argument for Obama/Clark synergy, then Wesley Clark is a fine choice to bring in the age-and-experience voters without alienating the anti-war reformers.

I think that Clark would be the best antidote for the Veterans in this country who truly hate McCain more than Kerry and the way the military is being run. He will be crucial in getting us out of Iraq and Afghanistan. He will help keep the Repugs and the NeoCons in line. And above all NO one can question his patriotism. Obama needs someone outside of washington to make change. No Senators or Representatives or cabinet members. As much as I like Bloomberg for the economic skills and Sebelius for management and bipartisian leadership there is nothing anyone can say about Clark. Rhode Scholar- check. War strategy and leadership - check, against the Iraq war - Check, southern - check. White male - check. Perfect compliment especially if the NeoCons start the fearmongering as an October surprise.
