Realizing that the black vote will flock to a viable black candidate, and understanding that Obama became indisputably viable post-Iowa, the clintons reasoned (so to speak) that they must offset the loss of those black votes with more white votes. But how to get more white votes for a candidate despised by more than half the electorate? Answer: By making them despise Obama more, by appealing to whites' basest instincts. In other words, the clintons continue to polarize the electorate, but this time over race. As they are already polarizing over gender, missus clinton risks losing some of her gender advantage. (And indeed, as of tonight, she has lost her lead among black women; they are now supporting Barack Obama.) Whites must now reject the racist clintons' racist scheme, just as blacks surely will.
